Why is this role important?

As the Solution Architect, Membership Services and Identity Data, you will play an essential role in the Agile Engineering and Architecture team to help design, shape and execute our visions on membership data and features across the department. Time to market, happy users, reliable, performant and resilient products are some of the reasons why we are looking for your help in building out our architecture practice. You will lead critical initiatives such as the membership data services and be part of a team that values growth, excellence and innovation. In addition, you will contribute to an organizational technology vision and demonstrate the value of architectural best practices, standards, frameworks, and principles across multiple products. You are a senior developer with three or more years of experience, looking for your next career move. Or, you are already in an architecture role and looking for new challenges

We are open to qualified candidates who reside within Canada, but the CBC’s Digital Strategy & Products department is located in Toronto. While we are currently working remotely, there will be a need to be in-office on occasion when it is safe to do so continues to exist.

How you will make an impact: 

  • Enabling membership features across our products and publishing platforms (web, app, connected devices) to support audience engagement and subscription goals. Deliver solutions covering broad architectural domains, including data models (conceptual and logical), controls, non-functional and operational designs.
  • Influencing the future of CBC’s audience membership experience. Help define the technological vision of identity and access management, including authentication, authorization, login and user management, including user profile, preferences and signal data.
  • Providing consultation, assessment and optimization on architectural design. Consider functional integrity, scalability, resilience, stability and operational excellence. Work across development teams and English and French services, leading and facilitating collaborative analysis, solutions, and technical decisions.
  • Building foundational frameworks and technologies and driving its adoption. Define, audit and help implement architectural standards and patterns for common application concerns. Ensure designs adhere to regulatory, governance and certification requirements defined by the industry and governing bodies.
  • Participating in the discovery and ideation phase of large initiatives. Work on harmonized member data management, assist in build or buy decisions, and provide technology and architectural recommendations.

What you bring to our team: 

  • The architecture experience. You have 3+ years in a senior developer, technical leadership or architecture role. You are a forward-thinking technologist who maintains close awareness of emerging technologies and their potential application for the products. You are well versed in architectural principles and key concepts. You have experience in designing and delivering complex software solutions that are performant, scalable and resilient; and a proven ability to develop broad knowledge on systems design, integrations and technologies. 
  • The domain knowledge. You have experience in identity management, including authorization, authentication standards and methods (e.g. OAuth, OpenID Connect, SSO), authorization flows, regulatory compliance, platforms and services (e.g. Auth0, Azure AD). You have an appreciation of operational concerns for enterprise IAM initiatives, like data migration, unified user experience, user support. You have exposure to working with infoSec and privacy teams to make sure membership, user services and data are secured and protected.
  • The leadership. You have demonstrated the ability to guide and oversee the work of teams, manage stakeholder interests, and play a critical role as a strategic and tactical technical subject matter expert. You have experience driving department strategies through architecture and innovations. You have led the work of a small team, taking ownership of the deliverables of the team, removing roadblocks, and providing guidance. You are open to diverse perspectives and collaborate on development and other technical areas.
  • The interpersonal skills: You are a relationship builder. You know how to listen and empathize with others. You have flexible communication skills and can translate complex technical concepts for a non-technical audience. You enjoy working with people and sharing your knowledge with them. You are constantly curious and continuously learning.
  • The education. We are less interested in formal degrees, while you may have an academic background in Computer Science, we value know-how over theory. Qualified candidates may be subject to a practical assessment of the above requirements.
