CBC Digital Products is the country’s biggest digital startup, taking on the challenges of innovating how media is made, sent and received. We are also part of Canada’s oldest and truest broadcasting company. We are trying new things. We are growing. As an entity of our own. As a voice for our country. As a team.

Digital is a part of our present and all of our future. CBC’s strategy is focused on becoming a digital-first organization that provides a digital platform for storytellers. Our mission is to engage our audience with stories they care about.

The opportunity

If you want to enter the world of digital media and be part of the change and growth of one of Canada’s long-established and respected broadcasters, this is your chance. CBC Digital Products is looking for an Agile Team Lead to join our team in Toronto for an 18-month contract with the possibility of extension.

At CBC Digital Products, we work in collaborative Agile Teams. The Agile Team Lead is an influencer, a champion and a coach. The ATL is dedicated to building healthy, high performing teams comprised of happy individuals striving to achieve their best and grow their skills.

We need an Agile Team Lead (Scrum Master) who understands there are different ways to work. Someone who shares our belief that with good leadership each team will discover what works best for them. We need someone who can act as a coach, a guide, a translator, a remover-of-obstacles, a facilitator-of-discussions and a mentor. We need an Agile Team Lead who empowers the team to do their best work in a way that fits them as a collective.

This is an opportunity for an Agile Team Lead who wants to cultivate an Agile mindset within a multidisciplinary team, with a special focus on helping the team thrive within a culture of trust, openness, respect and reliability. Someone who is equally committed to leading people and being a catalyst for positive change.

If you're passionate about Canada and you love technology, learning and bringing out the best in others, you’ll love working at CBC.

Who you are and where are you now?

You are working on an Agile team in an official or unofficial leadership capacity. You may operate under the title Scrum Master, but you prefer to think of yourself as a coach, not a commander. You are passionate about coaxing the best work from the team by empowering them with knowledge, methodologies and Agile principles. Your journey has been focused on Agile adoption, from working closely with resistant team members to transforming culture and ensuring full engagement and commitment.

You are seeking a new role at a place where the focus is on collaboration as a team and constantly challenging the status quo. You want the freedom to focus on building great products. You are looking for an opportunity to join a company with a purpose and with a commitment to supporting the career progression of their people.

What’s in it for you?

Cutting edge tech. CBC has more than 25 digital sites, all of which are mandated to reach Canadians online everywhere and every way, with a high emphasis on mobile devices. To achieve that goal, with no down-time, takes a robust infrastructure, powerful technologies, reliable solutions and rewarding work. As we ramp up for the next three Olympic games, we are building out and expanding our video presentation infrastructure. This robust platform is at the heart of what we do and who we are at CBC. Across all our teams and product offerings, we are focusing on personalization and machine intelligence to ensure we continue to deliver the best content our audiences are seeking.

Belonging. CBC/Radio-Canada is a Canadian institution. By joining our dynamic Digital Products team, you will be exposed to the best of all worlds. Corporate. Public. Startup. You will be part of a team that embraces diversity and at its core, truly cares about the country and the world.

Career growth. CBC is fully invested in our people. Whatever it is you want to pursue whether it’s a new programming language or a technical solution, whether it’s expanding your Agile knowledge or building an audience-facing platform. We will provide you with the time, resources and championing that you need to keep your career here rewarding.

Why join us?

Collaboration. We follow lean startup principles and use an Agile approach. Our dedicated people managers work closely with every individual to ensure we are leveraging their strengths, championing their ideas and supporting their pursuit of new skills and career progression.

Continuous improvement. What can you innovate in 8 hours a week? Our Digital department at CBC recognizes just how smart, creative and inventive our team members are. From prototyping new UI/UX to setting up dev environments to experiment on and learning new programming languages to creating improved search functions for our media. Wherever your interests lie, your 20% time is yours to allocate in a productive and professionally gratifying way.

What you bring:

  • The education. A University degree is preferred, but we know not everyone gains their skills this way.
  • The Agile experience. You believe in the Agile methodology deeply, but you are flexible and open to the real-world twists and turns. Your focus is on the best intentions for the team.
  • The technical experience. You have 3 years experience as a Scrum Master or Agile Team Lead. Ideally, you have experience:
    • Working in a digital production environment.
    • Facilitating the delivery of online interactive products.
    • Working with digital platforms.
    • With an iterative delivery of value: releasing early and often to ensure that business value is realized quickly.
  • The desire to learn. You are an avid student, seeking out best practices - and a way to apply them to real-world scenarios.
  • The communication skills. You know how to listen and relay empathy and understanding for diverse perspectives.
  • The confidence and the humility. Your powers of observation help you understand your team and what they need from you to collaborate and create.
  • The innovation. You can creatively solve problems and remove obstacles.
