CBC Digital Products is the country’s biggest digital startup, taking on the challenges of innovating how media is made, sent and received. We are also part of Canada’s oldest and truest broadcasting company. We are trying new things. We are growing. As an entity of our own. As a voice for our country. As a team.
Digital is a part of our present and all of our future. CBC’s strategy is focused on becoming a digital-first organization that provides a digital platform for storytellers. Our mission is to engage our audience with stories they care about.
CBC/Radio-Canada’s Web Platform team oversees the platform and code libraries that facilitate 2.5 million hours of content stemming from 32 different French and English video and 130 audio channels to millions of Canadians. We are looking for a Full Stack Developer-React to join the team that is relied upon and interacts with every part of CBC/Radio-Canada.
This is an opportunity to be part of a team that is responsible for the platform that feeds the presentation layer, organizing and analyzing data relevant to our content. This ever-evolving platform, that sits behind the presentation layer, is being built and expanded to be versatile, reusable and stable with the goal of rolling it out to presentation systems across all CBC web properties to provide an access point for our content in a standardized way.
This is a chance to take on the unique challenges the sheer volume of our web traffic presents. A chance to use new and continuously changing technologies. It’s an opportunity to be part of a collaborative team engaged in continuous learning and evolving their skills; a fun team that shares technical, informational and pop-culture knowledge.
If you're passionate about Canada and you love technology, learning and bringing out the best in others, you’ll love working at CBC.
Who you are and where are you now?
You are a Front End or Backend developer looking to move into a Full Stack role. Or, you may be working as a Full Stack Developer already. Either way, you are looking for an opportunity to join a company with a mission, value set and tech-forward approach that align with your own.
You bring a depth of skills and a willingness to be part of the knowledge sharing atmosphere here. Your technology skills are top notch with a focus on React and you pick up new tools quickly. You are adaptable and willing to jump into different areas, features, products - wherever you are needed, you are happy to contribute. Whether you are currently working in a startup, corporate or somewhere in between, you want to be part of a fun team, engaged in a continuous learning culture, where you can take on new challenges and be a significant contributor to engaging our national audience.
We work with a diverse set of technologies, languages, frameworks; but to us, grasp-of-concept is what matters. Your unique skill-set will only enhance ours.
What’s in it for you?
What you bring:
A well-rounded combination of education and experience. A university degree with a technology focus is preferred, but we know not everyone gains their programming skills this way. You have some experience working on a public-facing product.
The passion. You have a passion for information and technology and you are enthusiastic about the opportunity to link the two pieces together. You are more interested in working on maintaining and improving a stable platform over front-end page styling.
The communication skills. You know how to listen and relay empathy and understanding for diverse perspectives.

In becoming the leader in expressing Canadian culture and enriching democratic life, we need to be as diverse in every way as the country we serve, both within our workforce and on air. As an employer, we value equal opportunity and nurture an inclusive workplace where our individual differences are not only recognized and valued, but also extend to and pervade all the services we provide as Canada's public broadcaster.
