Executive Director, Business Operations & Strategic Planning

Behind the scenes, but ahead of the curve: help us develop the next-generation public broadcaster.

Created in 2015 to align, lighten and modernize infrastructure, Media Technology & Infrastructure Services (MTIS) is the backbone and the future forward arm of CBC/Radio-Canada. We are the people that make stuff work. We make connections; between media content, systems, people and places. We are the space in between.

A place with purpose, CBC/Radio-Canada has always been a highly-regarded pioneer of media technology. Not just in Canada, but around the world. Today, we’re transforming ourselves from conventional radio and television broadcaster into a modern digital media company. Technology is the driving force. MTIS is the team making it happen.

The opportunity

We have a newly created opportunity for an operational leader and strategic director. Reporting to the Executive Vice President of MTIS, we are seeking an Executive Director, Business Operations and Strategic Planning. We need someone with financial insights, data analytics and governance expertise to direct the cost structures for MTIS services and products; oversee the development and maintenance of MTIS policies, procedures and methodologies; and lead the various teams under this domain.

As the Executive Director, Business Operations and Strategic Planning, you will create operational alignment across internal MTIS teams (Digital, Production, Real Estate, Compliance, Security, etc.) ensuring that the business units function as a cohesive, collaborative group. You will be a key influencer occupying a seat at the table as the right-hand of the Executive Vice President, building and executing strategic oversight of enterprise projects; leading the Business Operations and Strategy team; and leveraging data to ensure MTIS delivers value to the greater CBC/Radio-Canada organization.

Who you are

As an Executive or Senior leader with strategic oversight, you are drawn to CBC/Radio-Canada as an avenue to apply your strengths identifying a corporate vision and converting it into a tactical roadmap for one of Canada’s most recognized and respected brands. You are a strategic business thinker with expertise in preparing and delivering business and strategic plans to internal and external stakeholders. You recognize that internal teams are the key to your success and incorporate the knowledge of subject matter experts into your plans; you can expertly align the goals of your leadership team under a shared umbrella.

What’s in it for you

Challenges. Building. Collaboration. As the Executive Director, Business Operations & Strategic Planning you will explore our position within the corporation and the corporation’s place in global media. You will focus on ensuring the MTIS organization is strategic, compliant and operationally sound while continuously evolving through organizational and operational model development and performance management. You will be pushed to envision, improve, empower, communicate and iterate. This is an organization-wide role where every project is complex and has a direct impact on the transformation and growth of the business. You will face exciting challenges working with stakeholders to align project strategies with the overall vision; optimize internal relationships and introduce an enterprise-wide approach to leveraging relationships. Right now we are looking for someone who can build and execute on a nation-wide strategy. Your insights and leadership will be part of a prestigious legacy and the future of CBC/Radio-Canada.

As the Executive Director, Business Operations & Strategic Planning, you will focus on:

  • Alignment. You will define the focus of MTIS, outline priorities, and create a shared purpose for teams across the department. You will build a culture of collaboration and cooperation that’s inclusive of all team members.

  • Strategy. You will spearhead business operations at MTIS by:

    • Developing strategies that support media production with cutting-edge technology
    • Adapting to the market needs of each region of Canada’s diverse landscape
    • Establishing budgets and allocating necessary funds
  • Leadership. You will lead the Business Operations and Strategic Planning function of MTIS, managing the work of multiple direct reports with an employee base of dozens. You will motivate, develop, and inspire the teams that makeup MTIS; championing their ideas and celebrating their successes.
